A comprehensive travel checklist ensures a smooth and stress-free trip by covering all essential aspects. Myself and I’m sure several other people also made some of the mistakes by not simply checking. You will be suprised easy a passport or wallet can fall out of your pocket. Make sure you check everything on this list the day before and on the day of travel you check the first list agian.
Day-of-Travel, Leaving Hotel and Deboarding Plane Checklist
ALWAYS CHECK THIS LIST EVERYTIME YOU LEAVE YOUR HOUSE, LEAVE YOUR HOTEL AND DEBOARDING PLANE!!!
Before heading out, it’s essential to take care of all the necessary arrangements and double-check your home, hotel and flight. This checklist helps ensure a smooth departure, prevents last-minute panics, and gives you peace of mind knowing everything is in order while you’re away. Feel free to add to this list for anything that isn’t replacable, for example important business documents or your kids even!
- Passport/ID & Visas (VERY IMPORTANT): Absolutely essential for international travel. I myself have been guilty of forgeting my passport while arriving in the airport luckily I live fairly close to the airport. I also forgot my passport twice on the airplane.
- Credit Cards and Foreign Currency (VERY IMPORTANT): Make sure your wallet is in order. I have 2 wallets while on my trip I bring a backup on the small chance that I may lose my first one. So far I have the good fortune of never losing my wallet.
- Phone and Computer (VERY IMPORTANT): Make sure you phone is in your pocket and your laptop is in your bags!
- Other Electronics: Make sure you have your power banks, power adapters, headphones, recording gear, portable game consoles and charging cables with you.
- Lock All Windows and Doors: Double-check every entry point for security. If you have home security make sure it is running.
- Check Travel Bookings: Double-check flight, hotel, and transportation reservations. Delays can happen, it would really suck going to an airport only to find out the flight is delayed by 8 hours, most hotels will still hold onto your bags while you explore the city a little more.
- Share Itinerary and Status (If needed): Provide your itinerary to a family member or close friend.
Packing Checklist – Check the above list
Packing efficiently is key to enjoying your trip without the burden of forgotten essentials or unnecessary weight. This checklist guides you through organizing your belongings, making sure you have everything you need for your destination’s climate and planned activities. A well-packed bag means more time enjoying your adventure and less time worrying about what you left behind.
- Medications: Any prescription or over-the-counter medications you might need.
- Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc. (consider travel-sized).
- Clothing: Pack according to your destination’s weather and planned activities (e.g., shirts, pants, underwear, socks, jacket, swimwear).
- Sunglasses and Swimwear: You will be outside a lot more when travelling, if your visiting a nice hotel or a beach I’m pretty sure most places wont let you be nude.
- Comfortable Shoes: Especially important for walking or exploring.
- Slippers: Really improves the hotel experience as not all hotel offer slippers.
- Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated and reduce plastic waste.
- Entertainment: Book, e-reader, headphones, or downloaded movies/music. I always download my own content before getting on the plane through Netflix, Disney etc… The content will vary by each airline and some airlines dont have in-flight entertainment options.
- Adapter/Converter: If traveling internationally to a country with different outlets.
- Camera & Accessories: If you plan on taking lots of photos

- Notify Bank/Credit Card Company: Inform them of your travel dates and destinations to avoid card freezes. However most banks do not require notification. Using your credit card with the pin when travelling internationally for the first time will do the trick for most.
- Clean out the Fridge: Eat all the perishables, no one wants to come back to a fridge full of mold.
- House Your Furry Friends: We all love our pets, make sure they are taken care of before you leave.
- Pay off your Bills: Pay everything off, if your going on extended vacation make sure you overpay if you have too. Don’t ruin your credit score over something like missing 3 payments of 50 dollars because you forgot.
- Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc. (consider travel-sized).
